Mitigation vs Restoration
With spring upon us, which brings intense storms and the potential of damage, it is important North Texans understand the difference between mitigation and restoration. Damage can happen any time of the year, but the potential is immensely increased during the spring.
SERVPRO Northeast Collin County/Greenville is the company you can depend on when disaster strikes. We are prepared to help you get back on your feet, but we also want to provide the information you need to be ready.
Water, Storm, and Fire Damage
If you live in North Texas particularly North Collin County or Greenville and surrounding areas, you understand the effects a severe storm or fire can have on you, your family, and your home. You have probably heard the terms "mitigation" and "restoration" used quite a bit, and you may be unclear about the difference. Let us take a look at what each means.
Mitigation
Mitigation is your home’s first line of defense after being damaged and includes measures used to stabilize the situation before more damage can occur. SERVPRO of Northeast Collin County/Greenville will respond swiftly and take the following steps:
- Inspecting damage
- Making sure the structure is stable
- Boarding up windows
- Setting up tarps
- Removing furniture and other items
- Storing property
- Extracting water
Additionally, these are the first steps in dealing with the damage, but depending on the seriousness, further work may be required to prevent bigger problems and eliminate the possibility of health effects from mold or other pathogens.
Restoration
Restoration is the next step after mitigation has been successfully completed. It is the process in which your property is brought back to the state it was in before the storm damage occurred. SERVPRO of Northeast Collin County/Greenville will clean and sanitize any parts of the structure that have been exposed to mold, bacteria, or other pathogens, and will disinfect and restore any salvageable items that have been removed.
Unfortunately, the restoration process can be lengthy. It all depends on the severity of the storm damage. After everything has been dried and disinfected, repairs range from replacing some drywall and painting to rebuilding entire sections of the structure.
SERVPRO Offers Both
SERVPRO of Northeast Collin County/Greenville offers both mitigation and restoration. Understanding difference in the two will make the recovery process much easier.
